I have been taking a browse through the official coronavirus figures on the website of the World Health Organisation. The latest figures for February 16th 2020 have just been published and are broken down below by Chinese province. There are a number of curiosities. Some might say deliberate falsehoods.
As you can see from the above chart there are NO people recorded as having been clinically diagnosed with coronavirus, outside of the Hubei province, in China today. If you look at the column that records laboratory confirmed cases of coronavirus outside the Wuhan/Hubei province the numbers are a mere trickle compared to Hubei. 9 provinces are reporting zero laboratory confirmed cases.
Are the WHO teams on the ground in China checking up on the provinces outside of Hubei or just accepting as fact what the Chinese are reporting?
It seems unlikely in the extreme that the combination of clinically diagnosed + laboratory diagnosed cases of coronavirus outside of Hubei are in any way accurate. Are they even being officially recorded?
Why don’t the WHO publish the numbers of people tested in both categories?
Are the Chinese publishing any meaningful records on the other provinces outside Hubei?
The WHO should encourage the Chinese communist party to publish figures by province and then further by medical center. I am assuming they don’t have this information to hand or they would be detailing it on their website.
4 weeks into this crisis we should have a hell of a lot more data coming out of China.
