Ireland’s 507,000 COVID-19 Unemployment payments split county by county

As we know, the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment is an emergency payment for employees and the self-employed who have lost their income and are fully unemployed due to the pandemic. To date 507,000 payments have been processed. Here we breakdown the payments on a county by county basis.

” Taking account of the claims that have now been closed the department has issued payments to 90% of people who made claims. However, approximately 46,000 payments were withheld for various reasons “ – GOV.IE

Each week COVID unemployment payments are normally generated on a Friday for processing to people’s bank accounts by the following Tuesday.

Below we have a breakdown of the latest Covid Payments split by county. Between 10 -12% of each counties population is in receipt of the COVID-19 emergency unemployment payment as of April 7th.

Kerry is the most badly affected county in Ireland with 18,500 or 12.5 % of the Kerry population in receipt of the latest unemployment payment. Laois has been the least effected to date with 7,400 people in receipt of payment or 8.74% of the Laois population.

There is an anomaly in the data in that 2,100 payments were not recorded against a particular county. The gender split is 284,000 men and 223,000 women.
