The House of Representatives impeachment inquiry finally ground to a halt with an embarassing thud yesterday on foot of the testimony of 4 academic law professors. Four individuals with absolutely no direct or even indirect personal knowledge of the matters to hand. But sure, the value of evidence has long since passed it’s sell by date in this process. An optional extra at best.
Yesterday, the difference between a court case and an impeachment process was laid out subliminally. A court hearing requires evidence whereas the final impeachment hearing required you and me, the public, to listen to a stern lecture about the urgent necessity to Impeach the president of the United States. Now!
Instead of facts, we were treated to a series of lectures on impeachment. It served a valuable purpose, to me, at least – a window into the minds of an elite. Ivy League academics. With so much brain-power on public display, it is unfortunate, that all we got treated to was a new line of attack.
Trump the monarch.
Pamela Karlan decided that the best way to illustrate the collective nonsense in the room was to drag Melania and President Trump’s 13 year old son into the House judiciary committee.
” I will give you one example that show the difference between him
(Trump) and a King – The constitition says that there can be no titles of
nobility, so while the President can name his son Barron, he can’t make
him a Baron”
I have long suspected that the true enemy of President Donald Trump is not actually the Democratic Party. The enemies of Donald Trump are the generational elites that flourish under the rules of the status quo. Yesterday merely strengthened my convictions.
Noah Feldman, Pam Karlan and Michael Gerhard, elite academics, just couldn’t disguise the sheer contempt they have for their President. Their collective egos wouldn’t allow it.
Nancy Pelosi was out this morning bright and early. She had no choice really. Democrats are pushing ahead with articles of impeachment. She was kind enough to take up where 2 of the law professors left off yesterday. Invoking imagery of a monarch that needs to be toppled.
She seems to have forgotten that the ‘monarch’ Trump and the rest of his ‘ Republican subjects of the Royal court’ ACCEPTED the results of the 2018 House and Senate elections. Pelosi’s selective amnesia about 2018 kills this new narrative. The results of these elections have allowed her and the Democratic party to proceed with this impeachment. An impeachment process that has variously stumbled between tragedy, comedy and farce.
Truth has no place in a dramatic production.
So Pelosi is steam-rolling ahead as a matter of urgency. One day of hearings in the House Judiciary with no fact witnesses. Articles of impeachment are to be drawn up fortwith – a vote to take place before Christmas and hand this dog turd of a process over to the Senate.
Speed is of the essence because if centre left democrats take a close look at the facts or review the entire process to date they may start sinking in quicksand. Pelosi is prepared to sacrifice the 31 Trump Democrats elected in 2018. Pelosi is prepared to especially sacrifice the 21 of these that are freshmen House Representatives.
You will get long odds on more than 2 or 3 of them attaining re-election with President Trump as company on the ticket. The sad fact is centre – left democrats have no long-term future in the Democratic Party.
The irony, is that the general public, sitting back watching this fiasco of a process, observing this fake urgency of now ‘ mullarkey’ as Joe Biden might say, are better informed than the elites tasked with informing us.
Moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats don’t spend their days defining themselves as such. They get up everyday chasing a pay packet, chasing an education or chasing a dream. It’s called building a life.
They have an ability to laugh at each other and more importantly laugh at themselves. The solemn tones of Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler et al – would have you believe that the end of the world is nigh. It most certainly isn’t. The ever rising numbers of people voting in each election, whether it is House, Senate or Presidential indicate a democracy that is in rude health.
Monarchy isn’t on the ballot in the 2020 election. Survival of the elites is on the ballot. Whether that is the media elites, academic elites, administrative elites, or worst of all technological elites.
The fact that this disparate group all want to impeach Donald Trump, the great disrupter, as quickly as possible, should tell us something.
The status quo works just fine for the elites and if they need to impeach a President to protect it then so be it.
Rasmussen have a poll out today with the President’s Job approval ratings. Queen Nancy doesn’t want you to look at them though. After 3 weeks of dedicated impeachment inquiry the President has never been more popular.
